Jack Novick, Ph.D:

Jack

          Jack Novick, Ph.D is a clinical psychologist and a child, adolescent and adult psychoanalyst. Trained at the New School for Social Research (MA in Psychology), New York University (Ph.D in Clinical Psychology), the Anna Freud Centre (Child and Adolescent Psychoanalyst), and the British Psycho-Analytic Society (Adult, Child and Adolescent Analyst), he is a Training and Supervising Analyst of the International Psychoanalytic Association, and a child and adolescent supervising analyst on the faculty of the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute. He co-founded the MPI Child Analysis training, the Integrated curriculum, and served as Chair of the Child/Adolescent Psychoanalysis Committee. He is a Training and Supervising Analyst of the Contemporary Freudian Society. He has also served on psychoanalytic faculties at New York University, Tampa, North Carolina, Los Angeles, Saint Louis, Seattle, and the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis. Formerly Chief Psychologist, Youth Services, University of Michigan Department of Psychiatry, he is currently in private practice. He served as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Michigan Medical School, and was a founder and Chair of Research at Allen Creek Preschool, where he has also been a Family Consultant.

         He has been a member of APA Division 39 since its inception, and was Chair of the Awards Committee of Section 1. He has presented nationally and internationally at major conferences and local centers. Jack Novick is widely published in professional journals in various disciplines, on topics of technique, theory, and applications of psychoanalysis. In 1964, he co-authored the book “Youthful Drinking.” With Kerry Kelly Novick, he has published five books, “Fearful Symmetry” (1996, reprinted in paperback 2007), “Working with Parents Makes Therapy Work” (2005, reprinted in paperback 2011), “Good Goodbyes: Knowing How to End in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis” (2006),  “Emotional Muscle: Strong Parents, Strong Children” (2010), and “Freedom to Choose: Two systems of Self-Regulation (2016).” He co-edited the Parent Work Casebook (2020) with Kerry Kelly Novick, Denia Barrett, and Thomas Barrett. In 2013 and 2015 he was elected as the North American representative on the Board of the International Psychoanalytic Association, and he is President of the Association for Child Psychoanalysis.

Community Activities:

         Jack Novick was a founding member of the Arbor Clinic, a low- and medium-fee community treatment clinic for children, adolescents, and adults. He consulted for many years at the University Center for Children, University of Michigan. He was a founder and Board Member of Allen Creek Preschool, a psychoanalytic school in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and a founder of the Alliance for Psychoanalytic Schools.


Kerry Kelly Novick:

         Kerry Kelly Novick is a child, adolescent and adult psychoanalyst. She did her child training with Anna Freud in London in the 1960's and her adult training at the Contemporary Freudian Society in New York. She is a Training and Supervising Analyst of the International Psychoanalytic Association, and a child and adolescent supervising analyst on the faculty of the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute, where she was also Chair of the Child/Adolescent Psychoanalysis Committee. She is a Training and Supervising Analyst of the Contemporary Freudian Society. She has also served on psychoanalytic faculties at New York University, Tampa, North Carolina, Saint Louis, San Diego, Seattle, and the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis.

         A founder and first Board president of the award-winning non-profit Allen Creek Preschool, she is past President of the Association for Child Psychoanalysis, has been a Councilor-at-Large for the American Psychoanalytic Association, and was Chair of the IPA Committee on Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis. She continues as Integrated Training Track consultant for the IPA.

         She lectures nationally and internationally and has published many papers. Community Activities:

         Kerry Kelly Novick has served on the boards of the Corner Health Center for Adolescents, Ypsilanti, and the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor. She was a founding member of the Arbor Clinic, a low- and medium-fee community treatment clinic for children, adolescents, and adults. She was a founder of the Alliance for Psychoanalytic Schools.
